Official vs expected. 'Official' = the date is printed in a current IRS publication (2026 Form 1040-ES). 'Expected' = the 2027 Form 1040-ES and the 2027 Publication 509 were not yet published on Oct 31, 2026; the date is worked out from the IRS rules (April 15 / June 15 / Sept. 15 / Jan. 15, moved to the next business day when it falls on a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday) and the OPM federal holiday calendar. Disaster relief can postpone deadlines in some areas. Check irs.gov before you pay. Federal dates only; state dates differ. Not tax advice.

The IRS splits the year into four estimated-tax periods, due April 15, June 15 and September 15 of the tax year and January 15 of the next year. If a due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday, a payment made on the next business day is on time. For 2027, April 15, June 15 and September 15 all fall on weekdays. January 15, 2028 is a Saturday, and Monday, January 17, 2028 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so the 4th 2027 payment is expected on Tuesday, January 18, 2028.
