Free Bank CSV Transaction Categorizer

Upload the CSV your bank exports. The tool sorts each transaction into a category with simple keyword rules, totals them by category and by month, and gives you an Excel (XLSX) file.

Private by design: your file is read and processed only in your browser. Your files never leave your browser: nothing is uploaded to any server. We use cookieless Vercel page-view analytics; no file data is collected. You can turn off your internet after the page loads and the tool still works.

More free tools: remove duplicates, split names/addresses, merge CSVs, PDF table to Excel, mileage log calculator, 1099 income tracker.

How it categorizes

Each description is matched against keyword rules, for example AMAZON → Supplies, SHELL/EXXON → Fuel / Auto, STRIPE/DEPOSIT → Income, ZELLE/VENMO → Transfers (review). Anything that doesn't match is marked Uncategorized for you to pick. The rules are guesses, so review every row before using the totals.

What CSV formats work?

Most bank and card exports: one header row, a date column, a description column, and either a single Amount column (negative = money out) or separate Debit and Credit columns. Dates like 2026-01-31 or 01/31/2026 are supported.
